Engaging Others through Thought Diversity and Moving Beyond the Echo Chamber

with Angela Wu, Vina Sananikone, Adam Miller | Moderator: Chris Clayton

One of the defining paradoxes of the modern age is that for all its promise of diversity and interconnection, the internet has created chambers of like-minded users who see only what they want to see. These “”echo chambers”” can blind us to different perspectives and stifle growth in the workplace. In this session, attendees will discuss the pros and cons of surrounding yourself with like-minded people and how to move beyond the echo chamber to engage others through diversity of thought.

Owning & Accelerating Your Upward Mobility

with Col Danielle Ngo, USA, Capt Mimi Phan, USPHS | Moderator: Khanh Nguyen

(Special session during diversity career fair)

Being in the Armed Forces calls for much more than weapons and a uniform. Many branches of the military are invested in cutting-edge technology, research, medicine and humanitarian work. From the front lines to icebergs in the Arctic, these amazing women have gained great respect and broken barriers while wearing the uniform and in their AAPI communities.

They have maneuvered through perceived stereotypes, cultural misconceptions and family dynamics to achieve their senior positions in a typically male-dominated force. Gain incredible insight into the equally-fulfilling, rewarding, and lesser-known noncombatant uniform services for professionals.

Impact of API Arts & Entertainment Industry on the Future Landscape of Leadership

with Jae Jin | Moderator: Jeleen Sindall

BTS welcomed to the White House to speak against anti-Asian racism, Simu Liu handing Bill Gates a boba tea at the Time 100 Gala, Oscar winner Youn Yuh-Jung going viral by presenting an Oscar to deaf actor Troy Kotsur in sign language.

Everywhere you look there are API actors and musicians growing in influence and breaking down barriers. How and why has the API arts and entertainment industry been able to gain these seats at the table? What can each of us do to amplify their efforts? How is this representation helpful and harmful for us?

In this session, we’ll be taking you all on a journey of legacy, courage, Asian heritage, self-actualization, and connection with community. You will leave with your own commitment to better understand and leverage these lead indicators of shifting roles for APIs in leadership.
