Meet Dr. Ken Fong

Pastor and Podcaster

Dr. Ken Fong is a reverend who will be giving a moving and inspiring talk entitled, “How I Used My Super Power to Get Our Church to Embrace Queer and Trans People.” He’ll be discussing how he led his large congregation on a 10-year journey to extend equal worth and equal standing to API Christians who self-identified as LGBTQ+. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to hear the important lessons he learned that can empower other leaders to tackle adaptive challenges in their own organizations.

Raised in the second oldest Chinese Baptist church west of the Mississippi (FCBC, Sacramento), Ken earned his BA @ Cal and his MDiv and DMin degrees at Fuller Theological Seminary. While pastoring at Evergreen Baptist Church of LA, he also served as a trustee for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Westmont College, and the Asian American Drug Abuse Program. In 2007, he felt called to lead EBCLA to become a safe and just community to ‘spiritually homeless’ AAPI Christians who identified as sexual minorities. Since 2015 Ken has been an affiliate associate professor of Asian American church studies at Fuller and also became the host and co-producer of Asian America: The Ken Fong Podcast, a weekly broadcast that has attracted listeners from all across the globe. He is also an avid photographer and cyclist. Ken retired from pastoring in July 2017. He and his wife Sharon live in Sierra Madre, CA, and their daughter Janessa attends Seattle Pacific University.

Come learn more about how Dr. Ken Fong led his congregation to embrace the LGBTQ+ community.
