Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the 2020 Leadership Convention in Washington, DC!

Volunteering with NAAAP provides a unique opportunity to network with other professionals and contribute to the local community. Our volunteers experience the leadership, values and vision that define our organization, whether they are working behind the scenes in support of the Convention operations or interacting with the attendees, sponsors and speakers on the front lines.

If you want to join the Convention team that plans and executes the Convention, roles are forming in programming, marketing, finance, HR, and account management now!  Contact for any questions.

If you wish to sign up as a day-of volunteer at the Convention, please use our online volunteer registration system and select your volunteer shifts. All available shifts are listed online.

Please note, there is a mandatory volunteer orientation and gift bag assembly on Wednesday, August 19, 2019 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.  

  • Great opportunity to network with convention attendees, sponsors and volunteers
  • Access sessions in the other half of the day(s) of your shift(s) subject to space and availability. 
  • Documentation of volunteer service hours if needed by employer or university
  • Nourishment and refreshments in the Volunteer Office
  • Access to the volunteer hospitality suite, lunch provided the day you volunteer
  • Mandatory Volunteer Training will take place Wednesday, August 19 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Westin Crown Center
  • Volunteer uniform for the Convention: Business Casual.

Day-Of Volunteer Positions 


(Aug 20, 21, 22)

Registration volunteers will be working at the registration desk and assist the attendees with check-in, badge retrieval, and handle any walk-in/new registrations. Friendly, out-going disposition, a smartphone or mobile device, and familiarity with online event registration skills are preferred along with Tech Support as needed.

Diversity Career Fair

(Fri, Aug. 21)

Career Fair volunteers will assist the Diversity Career Fair Director with ushering in career fair attendees, facilitating the flow of walk-ins, and assisting exhibitors into the exhibit space as well as answering any questions.

Session / Breakout Room Monitors

(Aug. 20, 21, 22)

Room Monitors will assist speakers and moderators with A/V questions, manage slideshow advances, distribute handouts, collect evaluation forms (if paper), run between the room and the registration desk or Event Planner office, and ensure smooth operation of each session. This is a good volunteer role for individuals who wish to hear particular sessions and meet speakers.

Greeters / Navigators

(Aug. 20, 21, 22)

Greeters will help attendees with questions regarding directions / layout of the convention site, convention schedule, details of the special events and other general inquiries. Some greeters will be needed very early in the day; navigators facilitating the traffic at meals and ensuring that the attendees enter at appropriate times.

Human Resource Professionals as Interviewers

(Fri, Aug. 21)

HR professionals are needed to provide mock interviews and resume review to job seekers and college students coming to the Diversity Career Fair to meet with recruiters and gain valuable insights from NAAAP leaders, seasoned professionals, and mock interviewers.

Special Events Volunteers

(Aug. 20, 21, 22)

Will assist on special projects.

Gala Volunteers

(Sat, Aug. 22)

Will greet guests and provide general assistance at the NAAAP 100, Inspire, and NAAAP Pride Awards Gala in the evening.
